Ever since I found out that I'm pregnant I have been craving one certain thing...a glass of good red wine. I know some people give the "a-o.k." to have an occasional glass here and there, but I just don't know where I stand on the issue. I've read mixed reviews on the whole issue, and people can be so adamant about it one way or the other. I guess in the end, giving up a good drink for a few months isn't too much to ask, no matter how intense the craving may get. So no more wine for me...at least not until this little one has said hello to the world.
Anybody else have feelings about this taboo subject?
I actually don't drink much anyways (empty calories, baby!), but have cut out all forms of alcohol now that we are TTC. I was talking to my cousin about this (she is a nurse and just had her baby a week ago!) and although she does not partake in alcohol except for a couple of times a year, she actually started drinking a glass of wine once a week. Her doctor told her it can be beneficial to the baby in the same way moderate red wine consumption is beneficial to adults. Their daughter was born with arythmia, and according to the doctor in the NICU, the wine she drank made her condition much less severe than it should have been. I will definitely have to consider all my options, but I'm very encouraged that it could not only be an okay thing to do, but a very smart thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIt's a hard decision, I had a few drinks before I knew I was pregnant. Now that I know I'm pregnant, I'm craving it and it's hard to continue to say "no."
